The Chicken Coop Is Ready and Brings Its First Results

UUSTEE has one more proof that patient work eventually pays off. The chicken coop, built by the hands of the project’s participants, is now fully complete — and has already delivered its first result: the first egg found in the nest.

From construction to a living farm

The coop as a continuation of shared work

After the rabbit hutches, the next step in developing the centre’s small farm was the chicken coop. A fence, shelter from the weather, a place for the laying hens — participants built all of it with their own hands, turning an empty corner of the property into a working farm, step by step.

The first residents

Today the coop is home to white laying hens who have already settled into their new place: walking around the enclosure, feeding, and — as today showed — starting to lay.

The first egg: a small but real result

Why this moment matters

The first egg isn’t just a piece of farm news. It confirms that the work put into building and caring for the coop has started to produce a tangible result. For someone on a path of recovery, moments like this carry particular weight — they show that care and patience are rewarded.

From care to result

Caring for poultry requires regularity: feeding, cleaning, watching over the flock’s health. It’s exactly this repeated, everyday care that led to the first result — a fresh egg in the nest.

A symbol of moving forward

Just like the rabbit hutches, the coop and its first egg become a symbol that at UUSTEE, any task carried through to completion bears fruit — both literally and figuratively.

Work therapy and everyday care of the farm

Working with animals as part of recovery

Caring for poultry is one form of work therapy that teaches responsibility for a living creature. Unlike a one-off construction project, looking after chickens requires daily involvement, which helps build a stable daily routine.

What this kind of work gives participants

  • a sense of usefulness and contribution to the shared farm;
  • a regular, predictable daily rhythm;
  • the experience of caring for something that depends on your actions;
  • a visible, tangible result of one’s work.
What it means for UUSTEE’s future

The centre’s own farm keeps growing

Together, the chicken coop and the rabbit hutches form a small subsidiary farm that is gradually moving UUSTEE toward greater self-sufficiency in covering part of its everyday needs.

What comes next

The first egg is only the beginning. The centre’s farm will keep growing along with its participants, and every new story will be a testament to that journey.

UUSTEE’s chicken coop is ready and already producing its first results. This small event is a reminder: the path of recovery is made up of many such small, but real, victories.
